Ronald McDonald House Collection
The staff and students of the Tabernacle Elementary School were once again asked to help support the Camden New Jersey Ronald McDonald House. We have been helping this particular Ronald McDonald House for over 8 years. Individual grade levels collected specific items to include: juice box drinks, snacks packs like chips, pretzels, cookies, paper products to include paper plates, napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, and 13 gallon trash bags. This collection compliments our year-long collection of pop-tabs from soda products, soups and other canned products. We also collect coins and donated whatever is collected to the Ronald McDonald House.
Pete Capelli, a local business man at Russo’s Farm, collects pop-tabs all year long for us and contributes them to our collection. People come from far and wide to Russo’s with their pop-tabs to help Pete with this collection. The directors at the Ronald McDonald House are so appreciative of our collective efforts.
This year we collected 15 boxes (paper boxes) filled with pop-tabs along with 12 boxes filled with the drinks, snacks and paper products. Eight fourth graders, along with Dr. Paterson and Pete Capelli take the collected items to the Ronald McDonald house. They are welcomed by the staff on-duty and the students and adults help unload the van. After the heavy lifting is done, the students get a tour of the facility and then return to school to finish out the day.
This charitable exercise helps the students understand that they need to be mindful of the world around them and help in any way they can.
